Our Story

I'm Mel! The face behind The Village Warrnambool

The Village Warrnambool began with a moment of deep inspiration while I was still pregnant. I came across The Great Birth Rebellion podcast and listened to Episode 110, where Aimee from The Village Community in the Blue Mountains shared what she was doing to support postpartum mums in her area.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I kept relistening — especially after giving birth — and those words stayed with me during those raw, tender early weeks. You know what they say: if you can’t stop thinking about something, do it. So I did.

I reached out to Aimee, and now she’s mentoring me as I build The Village here in Warrnambool. It’s been an incredible experience, and it’s shown me just how powerful community care can be.

Imagine you're deep in your early postpartum days — so in love, but also so exhausted. Then a care package arrives at your doorstep, filled with homecooked meals, easy one-handed snacks, and thoughtful self-care items — all put together by your local community. Imagine the weight that lifts. You don’t have to worry about dinner. You have nourishing food ready to go. You can rest. You can feel held.

That’s what we’re doing.

Postpartum support shouldn't be a luxury — it should be the norm, like it once was. Maternal mental health matters. Because when we hold and nourish the mama, we’re also holding and nourishing her baby, her family, and our wider community.

Together, we’re rebuilding the village — one care package at a time.
